Hello! My name is Alyssa Koehn, but you’re more than welcome to call me AJ.
In my 5 years at UBC, all of which I’ve spent living in residence, I have embraced every opportunity to get involved on this campus, my home. My CV is extensive, including Residence Life, UBC Rec Media, UBC Events, the Senate… but it is not where I was involved but how that makes me the best choice for President.
The AMS needs stronger executive unity, a capable leader, and to better communicate the work of the society to its constituents. After successfully planning and executing AMS Firstweek, coordinating and passing last year’s AMS referendum, and co-chairing the largest and most successful Student Leadership Conference, I know how to lead a team, build ownership over the work being done, and most importantly, communicate – within my team and to the campus.
My background gives me the ability to engage students from all corners of UBC, not just the ones at the council table. It is with much dedication, through amazing experiences in Student Development, Student Housing, as well the AMS itself, that I have become passionate about making good things great.
And I am passionate, I am infinitely dedicated to my work, and I think it’s far time we stop talking about changing the downfalls of the AMS, from communication issues to poor budget decisions and an inability to effectively collaborate with the University, and do it. I hope I have your vote and your belief that we can reconnect the society back to the students it seeks to serve.
